A huge web envelops the world (World Wide Web) gathering the common desire to communicate and display emotions.
A web spun from threads differing in nature and origin: threads that are disturbing or comforting, delirious or providential.

Threads, however, which are always ascribable to the men and women of this planet (for now); threads referable to their gaze and their eyes, to their sounds and their ears; threads, therefore, that allow us to think of the web not as a suffocating element but as a service, thanks to which the network captures and liberates attention and curiosity, refusing only those who wish to lose themselves because they are afraid of using “the eyes, the brain and the heart”.

The words in quotation marks belong to the great H. Cartier-Bresson who, as man and photographer, taught us not only always to evade but, moving beyond appearances and prejudices, to transform the evasions into evidence of freedom and artistic creativity.
This website is also the temporary destination of an evasion.
Mario Pignotti, who has prepared it, like a sailor has moored you to his craft and discharged the load of photographic experience and experimentation matured in previous evasions, together with the crew of memories shared over many years with fellow companions of adventure and poetry.

He has, in fact, met in his own wanderings, the giant with only one eye and many languages (poli/femio) and now, on this virtual island, he offers his own visions, hoping that the proposal of a new evasion will arrive from you the viewers who are weaving the web of vision and communion with him.
Photographs can be perceived, therefore, as evasions, as new itineraries, as luminous wakes in an invisible sea, as Tom Thumb’s fingerprints left in a new fable, as a proposal to call worldly things by new names, as the distance from stupid visibility, as the possibility of re-visualizing the things next door, because, as to paraphrase L. Ghirri, “ there is nothing ancient under the sun”.

If you have reached this paragraph, put aside any considerations regarding the equilibrium of my friend Pignotti’s compositions. Don’t let yourself be bewitched by his uncontrollable imagination and don’t attempt to study the orderly contrast of his black and white and even less, go back to the scene of his…crimes. This site is not the mermaids’ rock ( and nor is it the keyhole).
Take a look instead at its desire to add new, good, true and therefore beautiful thread to the web of common vision. Thread to which you can also attach your vision and your thoughts.
We all loved M. Giacomelli when he stated “I photograph my thoughts”. This site, therefore, is the fine place where “thoughts like images” meet, bind together and then, perhaps, depart much clearer.
